Kyla Walton
Head Orchestra Director
My name is Kyla Walton and I am the head orchestra director here at Otto Middle School. I’ve been in education since 2002, teaching 4th-8th grade orchestras in St. Louis, Missouri, and am excited to be continuing my work in string education here in PISD. I have extensive experience in the Suzuki Method, where I had teacher training at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I’ve been invited to conduct middle school regional honors groups in St. Louis as well as judged solo and ensemble festivals in Missouri and Illinois. I also conducted a community youth orchestra for 6 years on the weekends.
A violinist since the age of 6, I have continued my musical artistry in various capacities over my career. I played in pit orchestras for many of the community theater groups in St. Louis. I recently played a season with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra. I was honored to be chosen twice to play in an educator side-by-side concert with the Grammy-winning St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. I also played many church services, weddings, and other events with various groups in St. Louis.
When I’m not playing my violin or teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our friends and family in St. Louis when we get to go back and visit. We also very much enjoy traveling and exploring our new community here in Plano and enjoying all of the experiences the DFW area has to offer.
